Sec. 1. 5 MRSA §285, sub-§§11 and 12 are enacted to read:

11.__Supplemental coverage; Medicare-eligible retirees.__For those retirees who are eligible for coverage under this section and who are also eligible for Medicare, the State shall pay 100% of the retirees' share of the premiums for Medicare Part B only.

12. Supplemental coverage; Medicare-eligible retirees in participating local districts.__For those retirees in participating local districts who qualify for benefits under section 18451 and who are also eligible for Medicare, the State shall pay 100% of the retirees' share of the premiums for Medicare Part B only.

Sec. 2. 20-A MRSA §13451, sub-§6 is enacted to read:

6.__Supplemental coverage; Medicare-eligible retired teachers.__ For those retired teachers who are eligible for coverage under this section and who are also eligible for Medicare, the State shall pay 100% of the retired teachers' share of the premiums for Medicare Part B only.

SUMMARY

This bill requires the State to pay Medicare Part B premiums for state retirees, retired teachers and retirees from participating local districts.
