Rep. Dan Sayre is serving his first term in the Maine House of Representatives. He is a member of the IDEA Committee (Innovation, Development, Economic Advancement and Business).

Sayre had a 35-year career in book publishing in scientific and technical disciplines for professionals and college students. He served two terms as a Director of the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) and chaired ASEE’s Corporate Member Council. Over the past two years, Sayre’s consulting firm, New World Associates, has led the Workforce Summit for Industry 4.0 in collaboration with the ASEE. Sayre recently served on the Town of Kennebunk Budget Board and was the Board’s liaison to RSU21.

Sayre is passionate about growing and diversifying Maine’s economy and fostering greater collaboration between our education, business and policymaking communities. He is an advocate for building inclusive communities in which every individual can thrive.

Sayre lives in Kennebunk with his wife, Claudia, a former attorney and teacher who serves on the RSU 21 Board of Directors. They have two daughters: Emma, a conference planner, and Zoe, a speech language pathologist.

Brief description of the subject matter handled by the committee: Business regulation, including automobile and fuel sales; retail pricing; franchising; advertising; real estate practices; professional and occupational licensing; consumer protection; Finance Authority of Maine (FAME), including student assistance programs at Finance Authority of Maine; economic development; economic planning and development agencies; venture capital and trade programs; opportunity zones; import competition; product marketing; research and development; technology commercialization; technology transfers; tourism; and defense facility conversion.
